When the climber falls or is ready to rappel, the auto-belay system lowers him or her to the ground slowly and safely, as if on a pillow of air. Climbers, however, are reminded that while precautions are taken and safety is a priority, the risk of injury is always present in all physical activities. The Rock's only reported injury to date, though, is a broken fingernail.
